Shoppers queued for up to 12 hours to be among the first people through the doors of the Liverpool ONE store

Sephora's Liverpool ONE store opened to shoppers at 9am today - and some beauty lovers queued for up to 12 hours to be among the first through the doors. Huge queues snaked around the shopping complex with hundreds of people hoping to be among the early arrivals to receive one of the brand's coveted gift bags.

The beauty brand is known for its extravagant launch events and generous gift bags, with recent openings in the Trafford Centre and Birmingham's Bullring seeing shoppers camp out overnight. And Liverpool was no different, with Sephora fans bringing camping chairs, blankets and plenty of supplies to see them through until the opening.

The first 500 customers through the door on Thursday, May 22, received a goody bag. Liverpool ONE said queueing would not be permitted any earlier than 10pm on Wednesday May 21 - but some shoppers were waiting outside from 7am to be at the front of the queue.

At 7am today, Sephora presented the first 500 queue members with fabric wristbands. These wristbands were the golden ticket to guarantee shoppers would receive a goody bag.

Shoppers who braved the queue were treated to entertainment, food and drinks while they waited. Speaking to the ECHO at the store, Sephora UK's MD Sarah Boyd said: "For the first weekend we have quite a large network of entertainment - we have goody bags tomorrow morning for the first 500 people in the queue, and for the first 150 people on both Friday and Saturday. We had to calm the entertainment down for Sunday because there is so much going on in Liverpool this weekend!

"We have some fantastic local buskers who are coming in to entertain the crowds tomorrow because we want to celebrate local individuals. Music has been very central to it all, because we know how important it is to the city and we feel that music and beauty have quite a nice complimentary nature to them.

"We have Danny Beard coming to entertain the crowds tomorrow morning. We will have lots of food and drink provided - Greggs have turned up to supply, we have Cano Water, we have a cookie dough company and all sorts of other people. There will be all sorts of queue entertainment and sampling."
